This is a good read. The characters and story line are well developed, but a little confusing at first due to the number of characters, different parties and amount of information given within a very short period of time in the beginning of the story. This is only a minor detraction from a new take, at least for me, on space based sci-fi. I am open to all types and enjoyed this book. I will admit it was overly wordy in areas, but as the story/ series matures and moves forward/ continues, as I hope it will, so will the authors approach and style.
Mr. Trotman thank you for the chance to read your work. It was so good that I went ahead and bought a copy anyway so it was easier for me to transition between my devices. As I read throughout my entire day on PC, phone, tablet, etc...

I should have read the author’s bio (at the back of the book) first. This book is written by an English author who is an accomplished martial arts expert. I am neither! I know nothing about London (although I have been through Heathrow) and I know absolutely nothing about English cars or police procedures. Further, I can’t speak any Asian language and have a hard time just understanding my native language, English, as spoken by south Texans!

So, this book was entirely science fiction to me; a lot of science fiction. It took me a long time to read since it is an “epic” or a very long story made longer by the incredibly difficult names used for most of the characters. And there are a ton of characters which are introduced every where in the story. For example, “Tuduh Fadah” is a name that will show up midway through the book. I bet you can’t even guess what this person does or is and you’re probably laughing out loud when you pronounce the name. Most of the names are like this. I think they are Asian or at least Oriental which seems to be the prevailing cultural throughout the book. That’s fine with me, but man, the names are hard to read! Be forewarned.

The story line is pretty good, overall. Some schoolteacher finds out the hard way that he’s not what he thinks he is by a long shot. He almost gets killed without knowing why. From that point on, all he’s trying to do is get home to his wife, but his travels take him far away from Earth and to another planet and I believe to another galaxy. I do not know how the author keeps all the characters names straight. He does have a glossary and a couple of Appendices at the back of the book which you’ll probably want to refer to often.

I liked the author’s effort. I am not a fan of the martial arts nor do I understand much of how or why anyone would fight this way. In south Texas, we just take care of business with our concealed handguns (soon to be open carry)! If I’m close enough for you to touch me with one of your fancy kicks then I’m just stupid! Still, a lot of you might just like all this kicking and jumping around and can visualize it much better than I can. There is a lot of fighting, both physical combat and space combat. Oh, and you get introduced to the Teroseriak, a huge T-Rex kind of animal that eats anything!
Having now read the book twice I feel more comfortable reviewing it - there's a lot of complexity and nuance to the story and it took me a bit to grasp the interactions between the groups and characters.

First off, it's obvious Mr. Trotman is a filmmaker as his descriptive passages are very visual - you can almost see the movie in many of the scenes. (And I'd very much like to see this as a moving - I expect it would be dazzling!) In addition, the book is structured cinematically into what I see as a trilogy - think Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars with a touch of Chiun (from the Destroyer) thrown in. The characters are strong and engaging and it's very easy to get caught up in there struggles. And it's a very multicultural universe that plays better in the modern world than many space operas.

The book is generally fast-paced but as one would expect from a trilogy the middle section contains a lot of set up for the final conflict and ultimate resolution to the story so it's more moderately paced than the beginning or conclusion. This sets the stages and fills in much of the back story so it's engrossing, but some readers may find it slow after the action-paced beginning.

There's plenty of room for sequels (or maybe even prequels) and I certainly hope Mr. Trotman gets to those eventually.
It start out good, but after half of the book it lose it's focus. It feels more like two books than one.
Keeps moving. A bit heavy on the martial arts for my taste. Nothing transcendental, but a lot of fun for a few nights. We'll edited, tight storytelling. Well developed universe. My only beef with the storytelling and the universe was that the author didn't seem to have time to set a stage where the big reveals felt natural. It was like, "oh, yeah, and there's this other huge element of the conflict you had no inkling of whatsoever... Surprise!"
Hard for me to say why, but I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. Maybe it was the predictability, or just the pace. I'm honestly not sure. The book was well written and had some good moments, just didn't stick with me though.
