How To Break Up With An Alien My Alien Romance #2 Volume 1 Magan Vernon Books
I fell in love with Magan Vernon's "How to Date an Alien" when I read it last year, so when the sequel was released earlier this year, I was excited to dive into it. Unfortunately, it sat on my bookshelf until this past week, when I finally found time to continue reading Alex and Ace's journey. In the first book, Alex meets Ace, an alien, during her summer internship at Circe. They form a forbidden relationship between a human and an alien, which nearly ends in an intergalactic war. A treaty is signed into order, stating that, at some point, Alex will marry Ace and become the Caltian princess.
Which brings us to the sequel, "How to Break Up With an Alien".
I must start by saying that when the title was announced, I was worried about where Vernon was taking the story. But she knew what she was doing, and honestly, I'm actually happy with the direction that Vernon took the sequel.
Now that Alex is back home and she isn't able to spend as much time with Ace as she did during her internship at Circe, she's beginning to wonder what she wants. Of course, it doesn't help that someone is trying to force her into following a different path.
There's a certain character hell-bent on destroying things between Alex and Ace, and although I suspected this character very early on, it was still a surprise when it was revealed near the end. Crazy Caltians.
With the ending of "How to Break Up With an Alien" and the title Vernon has listed for the third novel, I'm eager for the final book. I can't wait to see what Vernon has in store next for these two characters.
What I enjoy most about Vernon's My Alien Romance is that these books really are the perfect light read. The books are full of both humor and romance, and that is a mixture that is impossible to go wrong with. And Alex isn't the typical YA protagonist, which, for me, is what truly makes this series. She isn't drop-dead gorgeous, and she isn't Miss Popularity. She's your average teenage girl, someone that teenage girls can identify with... if you ignore the whole dating an alien thing. Plus, she's hilarious.
If you have yet to check out Vernon's My Alien Romance series, you can actually download the first book for free for your e-reader through Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Amazon. It's an enjoyable summer read.

How To Break Up With An Alien My Alien Romance #2 Volume 1 Magan Vernon Books Reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although it did frustrate me because I wanted more of Ace, the last chapters brought him in full time and totally made up for him being so sparse throughout. I loved it though. Haven't we all been in Alex's shoes, unsure of herself in taking that next step after high school. I remember bawling my eyes out about leaving and I hated my school. Magan does a phenomenal job in letting her readers feel that same feeling.
Character-wise, I missed some of the past characters like Jen and Malcolm, but I loved meeting the new ones too. I could picture my own versions of these people and enjoyed them thoroughly. Great book. I highly recommend and but read the first one first. I can't wait to read what happens next!
A good continuation of the series. You get the angst of high school life along with the issues that come with a boyfriend who's not of this world. This installment didn't flow as well for me as the first one did, mostly because there was less human-alien interaction since Alex wasn't at Circe for this book, plus you saw less of her and Ace together in this as well. Still a good, clean YA story that leaves you wanting to find out what will happen in the next book. A few grammatical/basic editing errors, but overall well written.
You get to see a bit more into Alex's character now that she's in her home environment, now I'm just hoping in the 3rd book that we'll delve more into Ace's character. We did get to hear a bit more about him from Monte's character in this book, I'd just like to get a more rounded picture of him from the final story.
I enjoyed the first book in this series enough to read the second. The primary question on my mind *spoiler alert* How in the world are a normal human and an immortal alien going to have a meaningful relationship? I mean seriously, he's going to live WAY past her and be the saddest alien forever after she dies.
So that was my one question. I hoped it would be answered or at least addressed, and maybe it does in the next book? Instead I saw the twists coming. Characters that made me giggle in book 1 didn't quite meet that level. Maybe book 3 can redeem the story?
It's a debate as to whether or not I'll finish the series. We'll see.
How to break up with an Alien
By Megan Vernon.
Alex is back at school and working her first real job. She and her alien boy friend are working on a long distance relationship but he figures out how to zap himself to her room every night. At the coffee shop Alex is working at she makes a friend that seems to know how to keep her busy and away from Alex. Persuasion seems to be her new friends best talent and Alex occasionally wonders if there is a reason she keeps skipping out on meetings with Ace. When the prom comes up Ace finally has the reason to come back to meet with her family. I mean how would you introduce your Alien boy friend to your family? When Ace comes back Alex’s grandfather seems to think they have met before and it is making her wonder how old Ace really is, but as is that all important when someone is invading your dreams trying to get you to give up the guy you don’t think you can live without. You have to read this second book and keep up with Alex and Ace and how a Break up could possible be on the horizon or is it? Read and find out.
