Blue Murder Cry Me A River
The first Blue Murder novel by the creator of the popular ITV crime drama series starring Caroline Quentin.

Janine Lewis is Manchester’s first female Detective Chief Inspector. She’s also a single mother to three demanding children, and pregnant with a fourth. Janine has fought hard to get to the top, and she’s determined to prove herself, especially leading her first murder case. The deputy head of a local high school is left to die face down in the mud of his allotment, his stomach slashed. The prime suspect is on the run and an elderly dying man and a seven-year-old child are the only witnesses. This isn’t going to be an easy case to crack for the new DCI.

This Blue Murder novel formed the basis for the original TV series Blue Murder.

After watching the succesfull show starring Caroline Quentin, I stumbled upon this quick, sharp book. DCI Janine Lewis, divorced mother of three and expecting the fourth, tries to solve a first case since her promotion. This is a quick paced, enjoyable read. Ms. Staincliffe has a real knack for drawing a believable character in few sentences. The action moves along, there is no unnecessary padding. Real pro...

Blue Murder edition by Cath Staincliffe Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

My rating is probably a bit low--it's closer to an "okay" read than an "I don't like it," but I'll stick with the lower rating. I purchased, and later returned, an ebook edition of the book. The return was because of editing and formatting issues, which detracted from the reading experience. The writing was quite good at times, but the plot, as far as I read, was fairly predictable, and I just didn't buy some of the actions of the characters, particularly those of the protagonist, Janine Lewis. I most likely will not be reading any subsequent titles in the "Blue Murder" series.
This is one of those amazing "sleeper" books, something you buy, not knowing for sure how it will be.

Read it, and then you wonder again How is it that a book like this has escaped 'best seller' ratings the world over?

This is an amazing book -- a tale of a police-woman mother, three children, a fourth on the way -- who's deserted by her husband. At the same time, she's struggling professionally -- a cantankerous boss nicknamed "the lemon" and a host of interesting counterparts don't really want her to succeed. Finally she gets her big chance at work -- a counterpart is absent, and a major murder case is assigned to her. But at the same time, her home life begins to unravel. One son is hospitalized with an asthma attack, another is in trouble for bullying. Her former husband -- now concentrating on his lovely "Tina" -- is mostly unavailable. And it's no simple murder case -- there are three perfectly viable suspects, each with their own story.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I -- as a single working mother myself -- enjoyed this book. Hey -- been there, done that. Keeping all the balls in the air is darn near impossible -- and I didn't have a murder case to solve. Janine Lewis of Manchester, England, acquits herself brilliantly, against all odds.

This is a marvelous book -- it has everything human stories, of all the protagonists, not just Janine, the police officer, but of some of the suspects, too. The plot is believable, the writing excellent.

I'm now hunting for more Cath Staincliff books -- read this one, and you will be, too.
Found reading this the story was too slow and drawn out - unnecessary use of Gods name have read better
Janine Lewis is a senior detective with a very demanding job and with real domestic issues in her home life. How she manages murder at work and family problems at home makes a very entertaining read.
This is a rally good read
The lead detective is a pregnant soon to be divorcee call Janine and we learn all about her family
This is her first murder in charge of an investigation and there's plenty for everybody here and it's nice and short
Kudos to the author for her realistic portrayal of the main character dealing with a full time job, without regular hours, and a family that creates its own chaos to the mix. It was refreshing that the characters weren't portrayed as super hero's who never make mistakes.

Just enough suspense to keep you reading mixed with the humor of everyday life getting in the way.
